Stamas announces 2016 Heritage Route 23 Legislative Tour

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Jim Stamas has announced that he will once again lead a two-day tour of Heritage Route 23 with numerous state officials in an effort to help raise the visibility of Michigan’s sunrise side and engage the community about issues critical to the region.

Executive officials: MDARD Director Jamie Clover-Adams, DNR Director Bill Moritz, DEQ Director Keith Creagh, DHHS Director Nick Lyon, Travel Michigan Vice President Dave Lorenz and officials from Gov. Snyder’s staff.


A two-day tour of the U.S. 23 heritage route from Standish to Mackinaw City to highlight the region.


Thursday, July 14 and Friday, July 15.


The tour begins at Wheeler’s Restaurant at 111 S. Main St. in Standish and travels 200 miles along the Lake Huron shore up to the Icebreaker Mackinaw Maritime Museum at 131 S. Huron Ave. in Mackinaw City.

Beginning in Standish, the legislative tour will travel up the scenic shoreline of Lake Huron to Mackinaw City, with stops along the way including: touring a grain elevator in Standish and a dairy farm in Alpena with the state agriculture director, visiting a local veteran’s office, playing laser tag at Laser Team Challenge in Alpena, and highlighting numerous state parks and local businesses.
